On July 3, 2024, Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Jamaica, devastating over 150,000 Jamaicans and thousands of homes across the island’s southern region. Among the hardest-hit areas was St. Elizabeth, Jamaica’s agricultural hub, which produces more than 20% of the nation’s food supply. Hundreds of farmers in the region faced severe losses, including damage to crops, homes, and access to essential services such as electricity and running water.
In response, Soleco Energy partnered with the Rural Agricultural Development Authority to support farmers in their recovery efforts. Together, we distributed solar chargers to households that were left without electricity. These chargers provided needed support to affected communities in St. Elizabeth, many of which endured weeks without power before the local grid was restored.
Soleco Energy personally delivered these chargers to farmers raising livestock such as goats, chickens, and cows, as well as those cultivating vital crops like pumpkin, onions, and greens. These efforts underscored our commitment to empowering Jamaica.
